Jr. High and High School Spring Choir Concert

Tuesday night was the incredible Spring Choir Concert, with multiple choirs and small groups from Cascade Junior High School and Cascade High School!

These singers have worked hard all year long, and delivered a very fun night to a full house!

Thanks to Director Wendy Kivett for her leadership. The Cascadians Choir earned 9th place in the state this year!

Enjoy videos from some of the songs, and also the recognition of our seniors with roses. The closing song was just the seniors singing Remember Me. You can see all of that on our Facebook page.

Prepping and Cooking Chicken

How do you prep a chicken for cooking?

Cascade High School's AG class and Culinary Class combined on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mr. Brill taught the students how to prep and carve a whole chicken, and then Ms. Ross helped the students cook them, with four different sauce and spices and methods.

A huge thank you to McDonald Wholesale Foods for donating the chickens and giving this great opportunity! You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.

4th Grade Fishing Field Trip

4th graders at Aumsville Elementary finished off a great science unit Thursday in a hands-on way: a fishing trip to St. Louis Ponds!

Field trips are designed to take what students learn in the classroom and show how it works in the real world. For this unit, students studied natural disasters, including the impacts of erosion.

The first field trip was to the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory at OSU, fantastic opportunity for them to see actual tsunami and storm surge simulations. They were able to watch researchers test different building materials, which connects perfectly to lessons on reinforcing structures to protect the Pacific Northwest.

Today's fishing trip is a hands-on way to wrap up the unit on raising and releasing salmon fry. Students researched river ecosystems and created a large mural to show the difference between healthy habitats and the dangers to salmon habitat. Teachers also spent time on the cultural side of things, looking at the deep connection Native American tribes have with salmon and the history of Celilo Falls before the Dalles Dam was built.

Mrs. Surerus applied for and won a grant from Marion County Soil and Water to cover the costs of bus transportation for these great field trips.

This is the Cascade way! Exposing students to learning and activities that can last a lifetime, and building community while doing it! You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.
