Statewide Assessment Data

A stack of colorful books labeled English, Math, and Science sits on a wooden surface.
The state of Oregon released statewide assessment data for all schools on Thursday. These were tests given last spring in English, Math, and Science for various grades.

Once again, Cascade is ahead of the state in every subject area: 2.9 percentage points higher in Science, 5.0 percentage points higher in Math, and 8.9 percentage points higher in English.

Even though we are ahead of state averages, we don't want to rest on that. We want our students to improve and grow each year.

A big shout out to our teachers and staff at Cascade Junior High School, where our students had big increases in every grade and every subject!

Some examples: 7th grade English scored 11.5 percentage points higher than last year, and 8th grade Science scored a whopping 19.6 percentage points higher than last year!

Financial Audit

We are committed to being responsible and careful with all the funds our school district receives. We make our financial decisions with our students in the classroom as our priority.

As we do every year, we are currently undergoing a financial audit by an independent agency, so that we are transparent and you can be sure our money is being used as we say it is.

Thanks to Umpqua Valley Financial for carefully working through reams and reams of accounts in this process!

High School Helps Turner Elementary Students

Ms. Koenig's class at Turner Elementary had an amazing visit Tuesday from Cascade High School's AVID class and freshman Carson Brown. Ms. Koenig received a grant last year for a 3D printer, and today Carson showed the elementary students how to use "Tinker CAD" on their Chromebooks to make designs that can be printed into actual objects.

"It's like Legos," Carson said. "You can make whatever you want." The high school students helped the elementary students make a nametag keychain, while some students created their own designs. You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.

Older students helping younger students! We love it, and it's one of the special things about Cascade.

Tortellini the Tortoise at Cloverdale Elementary

Meet Tortellini, the Russian Tortoise!

Once a month, Tortellini gets to stay at a classroom at Cloverdale Elementary; whichever class earns the most tokens for the week gets to have the privilege.

Students earn tokens for being "Country Kind, Country Strong," when they help others, are kind, or work hard.

On Wednesday Principal Bradley showed off Tortellini to the first classroom of the year to get to take care for a week. (Tortellini began life as Principal Bradley's class pet when she was a teacher!) You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.

National Custodial Worker Appreciation Day

Our staff is what makes Cascade shine!

Thursday was National Custodial Workers Day, and we celebrate ALL our school custodians and district maintenance workers!

They do so much every day: cleaning, repairing, unclogging, stopping leaks, mowing, spraying, finding lost retainers, and so much more!

Thank you all!

College and Career Events for Cascade High School

Our big goal at Cascade High School is to help every student find the path after graduation that is right for them. CTE Director Toni Wallisa plans college and career events all through the year, so that students can see schools and jobs and other opportunities they might not know about.

First trimester, there are visits from many colleges as well as a giant College Fair that we host for schools in our area on October 22. Later in the year will be trades and the armed forces and other opportunities.

Volunteer Background Checks

We love parent volunteers! To volunteer, you will need to have a current background check on file with the district. Take some time to do it now! Avoid waiting until just before an event or trip.

The beginning of the school year tends to be busy, and processing these checks might take some time. Remember that these background checks are valid for two years and cover all Cascade campuses. Use this Volunteer Background Check link to start the process.
