Return to School - CJHS

Return to School - CJHS

Update March 25: Beginning the third trimester, we will be adding Fridays as an in-person learning day. Fridays will alternate between A and B days. Please see the updated third trimester calendar here.

We are excited to welcome students back to hybrid learning at Cascade Junior High. Here is our plan as we begin our next six-week term on February 16.

Hybrid vs. Online Power Point
Aprendizaje híbrido y aprendizaje totalmente en línea

At this time Cascade Junior High will begin to educate students in two different formats: Hybrid Learning (live lessons at school, and distance learning at home) or Fully Online Learning (provided by our Cascade Virtual Academy program).

What is Hybrid Learning?

  • Hybrid Learning will begin on March 1, 2020.
  • Students will be assigned to attend school in-person either Monday and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students will be split into “A” and “B” groups across the entire district by last name (last name of the first parent/guardian listed – so families with multiple last names can stay together)
    • Cohort A will be the letters A-Le (first parent/guardian last name
    • Cohort B will be the letters Li-Z (first parent/guardian last name)
  • Every Friday, all hybrid students will learn from home by attending live video conferencing lessons with their teachers.
  • On their two home days each week, students will complete work and/or lessons that teachers assign on their in-person days. This could be reading, traditional
paperwork, an online Schools PLP lesson, or some other online activity.
Hybrid Schedule
Students attend from 8:00 A.M.-1:10 P.M.

1st Period: 8:00 A.M.
2nd Period: 9:40 A.M. (There will be a 15-minute snack break from 10:30-10:45)
3rd Period: 11:30 A.M.

Details of Hybrid Learning
When students are at school for their two assigned in-person days:
  •  A free breakfast and lunch program will be provided at school (if desired)
  • All state and department of education protocols will be followed.
  • Students and staff will be required to wear masks the entire day (inside and outside)
  • Transportation will be provided.
  • CJHS will be divided into three 6th, 7th and 8th grade “small schools.”
  • Students will be assigned specific entrances, exits, and restrooms.
  • Students will interact with less than 100 students per day.
  • Hybrid teachers will likely be the same teachers your students have already had.

What is Fully Online Learning?

  • Beginning on February 16, Fully Online students will be enrolled in a computerized curriculum (Apex or SchoolsPLP)
  • Students will work independently on their 3 or 4 classes via a computer at home. There will be no live lessons or video conferencing.
  • Fully Online teachers will support students by answering email questions or phone calls.
  • When students need a test unlocked or get stuck on some content, they will email their teacher. That teacher will respond to them within 24 - 48 hours.
  • Students can work at their own pace, but need to finish the classes by the end of the six-week term.
  • Fully Online learning is being supported by our Cascade Virtual Academy program that we have had for several years.
